About Windsor County Mentors

Building Stronger Youth. Stronger Adults. Stronger Communities.

Windsor County Mentors is a nonprofit youth mentoring organization serving Windsor County, Vermont and Sullivan County, New Hampshire. Since 1974, we’ve helped build lasting one-to-one relationships between caring adult mentors and local youth.

Our Vision

At Windsor County Mentors, we envision a vibrant community where every young person can thrive through the support of caring adults.

We believe mentorship is about mutual growth, a place where mentors share life experience while also learning from the creativity, perspective, and energy of youth.

Together, we build a culture of exploration, connection, and lifelong learning.

Our Values

We believe in the power of connection. Mentoring relationships strengthen individuals while reinforcing the social fabric of our towns and neighborhoods.

Inclusivity

We strive to create a welcoming environment where every person feels valued. We recognize that everyone brings unique strengths, lived experiences, and perspectives to the mentoring relationship.

Empowerment

We support youth in exploring their interests and building skills, while encouraging mentors to share talents, hobbies, and guidance that can shape a young person’s future.

Tradition

Intergenerational friendships have long been part of what makes Vermont communities strong. We honor that tradition by creating opportunities for meaningful shared experiences and learning.

A Legacy of Mentoring Since 1974

Windsor County Mentors was founded in the mid-1970s by Judge George Ellison and Attorney Charles Gibbs, originally serving youth who were at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. Over time, our organization evolved into a prevention-based mentoring model focused on early support, connection, and long-term relationship building.

Across the decades, Windsor County Mentors has expanded programs, strengthened training and best practices, and served hundreds of youth throughout Windsor County.

In 2024, we proudly celebrated our 50th Anniversary, marking half a century of mentoring in Vermont.
